Letter to District Attorney Tony Rackauckas and Supervisor Michelle Steel

Here is a copy of the letter that Shirley Grindle and I sent to Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas and Orange County Supervisor Michelle Steel, demanding that they repay taxpayers for the public money that was spent mailing 16,000 postcards inviting voters to a “community coffee.”

As you can see, we believe it is wholly inappropriate for elected officials to use public funds to send out mass-mailings that serve little purpose – except to promote the self-interests of elected officials seeking to ingratiate themselves with the voting public.

In our letter, we said “certain supervisors have chosen to utilize taxpayer dollars to promote themselves.” This gathering served no public purpose and therefore the mailing expenses were, in our opinion, a misuse of public funds.

We will continue to put pressure on elected officials who use taxpayer resources for personal gain.
