On January 27, 2018, Supervisor Michelle Steel held a meet and greet in conjunction with District Attorney Tony Rackauckas as part of their impending re-election campaigns. Sounds innocuous? The issue is that the Orange County taxpayers paid for the mailing of the invitations to this solely political event. The County mailing to 16,000 people was for an event at a home that held couple dozen people.
The Voice of OC mentioned our efforts to force Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas and Orange County Supervisor Michelle Steel to repay taxpayers for the public money that was spent mailing 16,000 postcards inviting voters to a “community coffee.” This gathering served no public purpose and therefore the mailing expenses were, in our opinion, a misuse of public funds.
